Our first ever Power Rankings competition is here! Your three Power Rankers for this season are superfans aka #SurvivorAU megafans. James Rowland, the easily confused Jonathan Sloan, along with first-time watcher Josh Willett.

James Rowland – Hi I’m James, my fandom with Survivor started when I watched the first season with my dad and he would watch the show predominantly for the challenges. Fast forward to my adolescence and I stumble upon Survivor again and really fall for everything strategy. Cue uplifting re-watch/podcast listening montage. I will win the power rankings because 60% of the time, my predictions are right every time.

Jonathan Sloan –

Josh Willett – Despite never watching Survivor, I know that my inate knowledge and strong social skills will lead me to outwit, outplay, outrank the other lads.

This season, three of us will take a weekly look at each player left in the game, ranking them in order of the most likely to win the game as of the end of the weeks’ action.

We’ll look at the contestants tribe by tribe, ranking in terms of who we think is the favourite to win at this point. All three of us are unspoiled, so don’t stress about reading into this too much, we’re just sharing our opinions.

The scoring system is pretty simple; each ranker receives points correlating to the Survivor’s ranking the week they are voted out. For example, if the next person voted out was Anneliese, James would score 2 points, Jonathan would score 6 and Josh would score 5. At the end of the season, the highest scorer wins.

This segment, and this website in general, is all about feedback, so please comment/tweet about who you agree with, and make this a real discussion between the fan community.

1. At this point in the game, Jarrad has the best chance to take out the title on this tribe. He has solidified his spot in the majority alliance while also being approached as a swing vote. Jarrad is playing the way A.K wanted too but actually succeeding at it.

2. Anneliese fought her way from being the second most vote getter at the first tribal into a strong position, she will not be the first targeted from the majority and at this point I can’t see her not making the merge. (Winner pick bias, perhaps)

3, 4 & 5. Ziggy, Peter and Aimee are proof that there are too many people in the game and are receiving the Purple Kelly A, B and C edit. They’ve done well to find the majority and Peter’s spicy comeback to Tessa at tribal was delightful.

6. A.K was cooked after day one, if his tribe lost the first immunity he was undoubtedly the first boot. How the hell has he managed to slither his way into the majority? This guy has certainly got game and while I was unsure of his idol play on Jarrad, it seemed to ingratiate himself to the majority. Did well not to flip to Tessa’s side. Still think his erratic nature prevents him from winning the game.

7. Locky has unsuccessfully avoided the leadership position (shock). On top of being the leader who will eventually be turned on, he has caused a ruckus with ol’ Mark and is just drawing more attention to his alpha-ness. Sorry Bro.

8.Tara does not take kindly to term ‘flip’ hey? Tara backed out of her alliance and voted with another, it’s a flip in my books. She was very animated at tribal and her impending retaliation to Tessa will hinder her chances of winning.

9.Mark. H is only there for his size in challenges, no chance to win and no knowledge of survivor. Nice guy though. I think…

10. Tessa, many a winner pick. I was 100% convinced she was going home last night. Saved by the skin of her teeth. Tessa needs an idol or a tribe swap to save her.

Jonathan

I’ve given Jarrad the top spot because he just seems to be so likeable that everyone is gravitating to him. AK proved this by giving him the idol, which I think shows how much sway Jarrad’s opinion has on everyone else. Locky isn’t going anywhere if these guys want to win any kind of challenges, plus he’s an endearing ‘misfit’, so surely he’s safe. Ziggy has gone pretty unnoticed on the show, but I was super impressed by her ability to get into the alliance of seven after being left out of the Adam vote, so I have high hopes for her. We’ve seen basically zero of Peter so far, but his call-out of Tessa was my personal highlight of the last episode, so if he can bring that level of sass to the confessionals, I think we’ll start to see a lot more of him. Tara’s probably gonna be safe for a while, but she seems to be the obvious target of the minority alliance and she really didn’t help herself by proving that she can be a tad volatile at Tribal. I really like Tessa as a player and think she could be dangerous should she make a swap, but at the moment there’s nobody left for her to throw in front of a bus. Also, I just couldn’t justify putting AK any higher. I know you’re probably reading this mate, and I’m sorry, but let’s be real, you’re messy as hell.

Josh

With immunity idols out of play at the moment for Samatau, Locky is a lock (if you’ll pardon the pun) for the number one spot as he’s crucial for the tribe if they’re going to compete in any upcoming challenges. AK looks like one of main players as it stands and seems surprisingly safe after playing way too hard early in the game. He has won back an element of trust after using his immunity idol to protect Jarrad, and having pulled that kind of move we have to imagine he’s got more big things in the works. If I’m honest, from 3-7 on this list are hard to separate. Jarrad seems to get along well with the two main players in the tribe, Aimee is good fun and seems switched on, but like Annaleise, Ziggy and Peter, seem willing to just sit back and stay out of any conflict, happy to let the game run its course for a while. Mark (aka Tarzan) has been butting heads with Locky, which doesn’t seem to be a smart call given how crucial Locky is to the tribe. He needs to be careful not to push Locky too far or he runs the risk of the tribe turning against him. Tara and Tessa seem determined to wipe each other out at the next possible opportunity, with more talk of flips than a gymnastics textbook – looks like a matter of time before they are both gone.

1. Jacqui has positioned herself next to a strong male with his head screwed on in Henry. They hold the majority and the reason Jacqui is above Henry is that the sidekick won’t be noticed as much as the leader.

2. Henry has the love of the tribe and his yoga scheme has worked so far. His couple with Jacqui seems to be under the radar and he has identified the need to vote out Sam or Mark. Didn’t go over the top in the attempted throw which I love. Not to mention he has an idol.

3. Sarah is a bit of a lone wolf in a tribe of power couples, which isn’t such a bad thing. She has her fingers in every pie but isn’t seen as a schemer. If she can lie straight to Sam’s face as she did Joan, she will be solidified as the real deal.

4, 5, 6. Odette, Michelle and Ben. Refer to silent edits from above ^.

7. I bloody love Jericho. He is smashing the challenges and seems to be liked by his tribe. I do see his bromance with Luke as a problem though. If Jericho can’t separate from Luke and is tied to his hectic moves he may go down on Luke’s sinking ship.

8. Mark, don’t be in an obvious romantic power couple mate. Lee and El did it last year, there is no way S2 contestants (who are majority fans of the game) are going to let the same thing repeat. You’ll be saved because of your masculinity but will you crack it when your girlfriend is voted off? Possibly.

9. Sam in the same boat as Mark but is more paranoid. The perceived weaker of the power couple will be voted off first.

10. Kent won’t make it to the merge because he is too much of a liability in challenges.

11. Luke is my favourite character of the season, he is so funny and is messing up everyone’s plans for fun. Luke has zero grasp on subtlety though and one way or another is going to dig his own grave. Zero chance of winning.

Jonathan

Asaga seems to be a tribe full of duo’s, who are functioning with various levels of success. Henry and Jacqui are a tight pair and both seem incredibly likeable, but Henry has the idol so he’s just edged ahead. Meanwhile, Sam and Mark seem to be doing their best to sink their ship early on by presenting themselves as an obvious pair, bordering on a showmance.

Luke

Luckily for Mark, he’s still needed in challenges, so Sam’s the one facing the chop. The final duo is Australia’s favourite bromance, Luke and Jericho. Luke’s really hard to place in a ranking because he does seem to have control over a few people, namely Jericho and Ben, but at the same time, I’m not convinced he’s got a clue what he’s doing. Unrelated, but I freaking love Jericho already.

Also there’s allegedly someone named Odette on this tribe.

Josh

For Asaga, Henry is really well placed having found the first immunity idol, and he looks to be in a very solid alliance with Jacqui. He managed to stay under the radar despite trying to throw the last challenge, so he’s in a good place if he can keep his plans secret. Similarly, Mark is a crucial member of the tribe for the sake of their success in challenges, and he’ll go far if he can keep his special forces background hidden.

Luke is a loose cannon and will be difficult for the rest of the tribe to predict, but having taken Jericho under his wing, it seems like he’ll be a key player going forward if he can keep impacting tribal councils the way he did to vote out Joan.

Michelle, Sarah, Ben and Odette seem to be contributing well in challenges and look safe within the tribe but have completely flown under my radar. Sam put a target on her back by cosying up with Mark, and if the rest of the tribe decide to break up the so-called “power couple”, she’s the one that looks to be on the way out. It looks like “Clark” Kent is struggling through the challenges, and having narrowly survived the first tribal council, he’ll be hoping Asaga continue their winning form if he’s going to continue his stay in Samoa.
